asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will give local authorities permissive powers to exceed the remuneration for sanitary and housing inspectors, fixed by the National Joint Council for local authority staffs.

There is no specific provision requiring my approval of the salaries paid to sanitary and housing inspectors. If a local authority considers that the scales fixed by the National Joint Council are inadequate, their proper course is to take it up with their Association or with the Council direct.
