HC Deb 15 December 1953 vol 522 c33W
Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his attention has been drawn to threatened evictions from partly-furnished rented accommodation in Dundee; and whether he will act to give tenants of partly-furnished accommodation the right of appeal to the rent tribunal against notices to leave.

Mr. J. Stuart

My attention has been drawn to these cases but I have no authority to act in the sense suggested. Tenants of furnished accommodation who receive notice to quit after applying to the rent tribunal can be granted temporary security of tenure by the tribunal. Any extension of the tribunals' powers to cover cases where the tenant receives the notice to quit before he applies would require legislation.
