HC Deb 10 December 1953 vol 521 c270W
96. Mrs. Slater

asked the Minister of Education if she is aware of the lack of playing fields for the 4,800 children in the Burslem and Tunstall schools; and what steps she proposes to remedy this.

Miss Horsbrugh

Yes, but I regret that, as I explained to the hon. Member in my letter of 10th August last, I cannot at present approve the local education authority's plans for the development of playing fields in this area.

97. Mrs. Slater

asked the Minister of Education when she proposes to relax the general ban on the development of playing fields imposed in Circular 245.

Miss Horsbrugh

Under the policy set out in Circular 245, playing fields may be provided with, the aid of grant from my Department where they are associated with new schools but not otherwise. I cannot say when I shall be able to relax this policy.
