asked the Minister of Health if he will consult with the Birmingham Regional Hospitals Board about the need to appoint an additional consultant physician to the staff of the North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary, in view of the fact that the waiting period for outpatients at this hospital is now three months or more.

mental deficiency and mental disease, respectively, in the areas of administration of each of the four metropolitan regional hospital boards; and what is the approximate waiting list in each category in each region.

The numbers at 31st December, 1952, were as given below. The figures for each region include those for teaching hospitals situated in the regional area and those for mental illness include those for patients treated in neurosis units outside the Lunacy and Mental Treatment Acts.

I am informed that the board have arranged for three additional out-patient clinics to be held weekly: one is starting now, the other two on the 1st January.
