HC Deb 10 December 1953 vol 521 c277W
116. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to what extent men who served in the 1914–1918 war and who are employed in Inland Revenue offices are to be dismissed owing to the age limit of 65 while temporary clerks, including married women, are being retained.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

There is no compulsory age of retirement as suggested in the Question. It is the policy of the Board of Inland Revenue to retain in their service irrespective of age any temporary clerk who is fit and fully efficient in the performance of his duties. I am looking into the case which the right hon. Gentleman has been good enough to bring to my attention and will write to him as soon as possible.
