HC Deb 09 December 1953 vol 521 cc240-1W
96. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General what steps are being taken to provide telephone facilities to about 1,000 applicants at present waiting in Newport, in view of the fact that many of them have now been waiting for over two years.

Mr. Gammans

Four hundred telephones have been fitted during the past 12 months and we hope to make a substantial increase on this number next year. As many new applications continue to be received and additional cables are required in some parts of the town, I cannot say when the waiting list is likely to be cleared.
