asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why it is proposed that three more battalions of the Malay Regiment should be formed by 1962.

Mr. Lyttelton

This is part of the planned development of the military forces of the Federation of Malaya which, in its advance towards self-government, must assume a greater share of the responsibility for internal security.
