HC Deb 03 December 1953 vol 521 c167W
99. Mr. Bowden

asked the Minister of Education if she is aware that more than 100 infant children resident on the Eyres Monsell Estate, Leicester, are having to travel a distance of approximately a mile, crossing a road traffic island where six roads converge, to attend a temporary school at the Community Centre, South-fields Drive: and if she will instruct the local education authority to provide additional temporary school accommodation on the Eyres Monsell Estate until such time as the proposed permanent school is ready.

Miss Horsbrugh

A temporary infants' school of eight classrooms was completed last September, and it is hoped to have ready within 18 months a permanent new infants' school which is now being built. When this school is ready it is expected that the use of the community centre for school purposes will cease. In these circumstances I do not think that the provision of additional temporary school accommodation is justified.
