§ 52. Sir H. Roperasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will give an assurance that, subject to technical considerations, top priority in the development of television and sound broadcasting services will be given to the improvement of sound reception in those areas where at present reception is poor.
§ Mr. GammansI am fully aware that in some parts of the country the reception of B.B.C. sound programmes is poor, and I can assure my hon. Friend that both the B.B.C. and the Government will keep this fact well in mind in their plans for future development in sound and television. The only satisfactory solution to the problem is V.H.F., but the rate of progress which can be made with it and other developments must be determined by the amount of capital investment which would be justified in the light of our general economic position.
