asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will estimate the savings to his Department consequent on the reduction in the rates of Purchase Tax proposed in the Budget statement.

Mr. Marples

My right hon. Friend regrets that he can make no estimate of the saving which will be made, either by his Department directly or indirectly through the savings made by local authorities.
