HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 c171W
Mrs. Corbet

asked the Minister of Agriculture what advice he is giving to the authorities responsible for flood defences, pending the receipt of the Waver-ley Committee's report, on the extent to which they should raise the level of flood defences.

Sir T. Dugdale

The immediate task of the river boards in the flood areas is to try to restore the sea defences to pre-flood standards before next winter's gales. But where important industrial and other areas are protected, improved standards, allowing for recent experience, are being worked out in consultation with river board engineers. The work done this year will, in so far as is possible, be made capable of improvement in the light of any conclusions reached by the Waver-ley Committee.
