HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 c186W
Lieut. Colonel Bromley Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, 1934, whilst it is permissible for a passenger vehicle not exceeding three tons to tow a two-wheel horse box trailer at a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour, that maximum is reduced to 20 miles per hour if the trailer has four wheels; and whether, in view of the fact that a four-wheel tandem horse box trailer is steadier and safer on the road than a two-wheel one of the same weight capacity, he will arrange to dispose of this anomaly at an early date.

Mr. Braithwaite

We are aware of these provisions, but my right hon. Friend is not satisfied that there are sufficient grounds for making an exception in the case of the particular type of vehicle to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers.
