HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 c89W
93. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has made an estimate of the extra cost that would be entailed in paying their pensions monthly rather than quarterly to those retired Scottish teachers who apply for this concession.

Mr. J. Stuart

If, as seems likely, a substantial majority of retired Scottish teachers chose to have their pensions paid monthly, the additional cost would be more than £3,000 a year. There would also be an additional charge of up to £360,000 in the financial year in which the change from quarterly to monthly payments was made, as the equivalent of 14 monthly payments would be made in that year.
