§ 118. Mr. Snowasked the Secretary of State for War if he will reconsider the Z call-up of 22369823 Private G. Rowland, 92, Amington Road, Tamworth, Staffordshire, a trained face stripper at Amington Colliery, who finished his last Army service on 25th May, 1952, and whose wife is ill.
§ Mr. HeadPrivate Rowland is a National Service man who is carrying out his part-time service in the Army Emergency Reserve. His training is, therefore, not under the Z reservist scheme but under his obligation under the National Service Act, 1948. I cannot agree to this man's exemption from training nor, as a result of the inquiries I have made into his domestic circumstances, do I feel justified in changing his training dates.
§ 121. Mr. Bartleyasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that his letter of 30th September, 1952, in regard to the posting of 22664772 Private K. M. Jobson, and addressed to the hon. Member for Chester-le-Street, gave information directly contrary to that received by Mr. M. Jobson, the soldier's father, in a letter dated 8th October, 1952, from Private Jobson's commanding officer in regard to the same subject; and if he will explain the discrepancy and state which is the correct information.
§ Mr. HeadYes, and I regret the discrepancy. The incorrect information in the earlier letter occurred through an attempt to deal with the matter urgently over the telephone, but I am looking into the question to see at what point the mistake occurred. The information given in the second letter, that this soldier has been medically downgraded, is correct.
