HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 cc98-9W
120. Mr. Shurmer

asked the Secretary of State for War how many National Service men in their 'teens have been killed and wounded, respectively, on active service in Korea and Malaya.

Mr. Head

Separate casualty figures for National Service men below the age of 20 are not readily available. The numbers of National Service men killed and wounded are as follows. In Korea up to 30th September this year, 156 National Service officers and other ranks were killed, died of wounds, or died as prisoners-of-war, and 602 were wounded.

In Malaya, from November, 1949, the earliest date on which casualties to National Service men were separately recorded, up to 6th October this year, 65 National Service officers and other ranks were killed or died of wounds and 101 were wounded. Most of these men would be in their 'teens.
