§ Mr. Perkinsasked the Minister of Civil Aviation whether he will issue a regulation to ensure that all aircraft flying over long land distances where the existing facilities are inadequate, carry a member of the crew who is in possession of an official navigator's licence.
§ Mr. MaudlingUnder the existing regulation, the holder of a flight navigator's licence must be included in the crew on a flight without landing for a great circle distance of more than 1,500 nautical miles or 1,000 miles over water.
In view of the recent accident to a British aircraft while crossing the Sahara consideration is being given to its amendment. In the meantime, a requirement for a flight navigator to be carried on the Tripoli—Kano route has been made under proviso to Article 19 (2) of the Air Navigation Order, 1949.
