HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 cc104-5W
Mr. Nabarro

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of farms in the United Kingdom supplied with electricity on 1st April, 1948; the percentage that represented of all such farms; and the comparative figures for 30th September, 1952, or latest convenient date.

Sir T. Dugdale

I understand that approximately 85,000 farms in Great Britain were supplied with electricity on 1st April, 1948, representing 24 per cent. of the total number. By 1st July, 1952, the number of farms connected to the public mains had increased to approximately 126,000, equal to 36 per cent. of farms. I have no information about the position in Northern Ireland.
