§ 82. Mr. G. R. Straussasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, why Her Majesty's Government has refused to participate in the establishment of the laboratory in Geneva, to be set up at the initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, for the combined research by Western European scientists into nuclear research.
§ Mr. MolsonHer Majesty's Government have not so far deemed it necessary to become formal members of the interim inter-Governmental Council of Western European Powers who are planning the proposed centre and laboratory. The Government are in full sympathy with the Council's general objectives and United86W Kingdom scientists have taken part in their discussions. Her Majesty's Government have not yet decided whether to participate in any scheme for a laboratory which may in due course be put forward by the interim Council.
