HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 c80W
54 and 55. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) if he is aware that there is concern over his decision to suspend the Inland Water Survey for three years, and that forward planning for agriculture, industry and housing depends substantially upon knowledge of the supply of water from rivers, springs and wells; and if he will reconsider his decision;

(2) what amount it is anticipated will be saved by the suspension of the Inland Water Survey for three years.

Mr. H. Macmillan

The suspension applies only to the provision of new gauges, the central collection, collation and publication of records by the Ministry, and to the meetings of the Inland Water Survey Committee. No other work is affected: in particular, local recording will proceed and the results will be available for collation in due course. The planning of agriculture, industry and housing during the next few years is thus not likely to suffer.
