HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 c88W
87. Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister of Labour if he will exempt crofters and farmers on family farms from National Service if they undertake service in the Territorial Army or the Home Guard.

Mr. Watkinson

No. There are adequate arrangements for deferment of National Service where withdrawal of a man from a small farm would seriously affect food production, and also for postponement of service in cases of exceptional hardship.
