§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThe increase in the estimate of the number of immigration officers was due partly to a large increase in traffic at the London airports and partly to the temporary need for additional staff to obtain information about aliens who came to this country during and since the war in large groups and were not given a personal examination at the ports of landing. A statement about the arrangements for dealing with these aliens was made to the House by my predecessor on 18th October, 1950. The additional staff recruited for this purpose is now being dispensed with.
