Mr. Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on how many occasions collective punishment has been imposed in British Somaliland during the last year; and for what reasons.

On three occasions, in addition to the enforcement of an order made against certain tribes in 1949 and temporarily suspended. The reasons for these punishments were inter-tribal fighting and suppression of evidence concerning individuals responsible for killings.
