§ Mr. Nabarroasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that Barnsley Hall Hospital, Worcestershire, consumed 3,000 tons of coal, approximately, per annum; that proposals to re-equip power and heating arrangements at the hospital thereby saving 540 tons of coal per annum were first made in 1947; that consistent refusal of his Department to sanction a loan to meet the estimated cost of £6,000, approximately, has resulted in progress being negatived; and whether, in view of the urgent need for coal conservation, he will now sanction the requisite loan.
§ Mr. CrookshankThis proposal could not proceed because the metal needed was not available. No question of sanctioning a loan arose; nor does it arise now, as the hospital is now vested in the Minister of Health. The Regional Hospital Board were informed about the proposal when the hospital was transferred; and the possibility of proceeding with the scheme will be considered when the controlled materials can be made available.
