HC Deb 25 June 1952 vol 502 c169W
24. Mr. Philip Bell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that British nationals resident in Israel are not permitted to take their money out of Israel; and if he will negotiate with the Israeli Government with a view to remedying this hardship.

Mr. Nutting

Residents of Israel, whatever their nationality, are subject to Israel Exchange Control in the same way as residents of the United Kingdom are subject to the United Kingdom Exchange Control. The Israel Government imposes severe restrictions on the transfer of capital from Israel in order to conserve foreign exchange, of which Israel is at present very short. Whenever cases of hardship to British nationals have been brought to their attention, Her Majesty's Government have taken them up with the Israel Government through the diplomatic channel, and will continue to do so.
