HC Deb 31 July 1952 vol 504 c192W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what are the numbers of subjects of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics at present enjoying diplomatic immunity in the United Kingdom; and what were the numbers of such subjects enjoying that immunity in 1938.

Mr. Nutting

Sixty Soviet citizens are employed on the diplomatic and clerical staffs of the Soviet Embassy in London in capacities which entitle them, in the view of Her Majesty's Government, to claim diplomatic immunity. The corrresponding figure in 1938 was 20.

In addition, 34 Soviet citizens, employed as servants in the Ambassador's personal household and in the Chancery of the Embassy, are officially regarded as sharing the Ambassador's diplomatic immunity. Nine Soviet citizens were similarly employed in 1938.
