HC Deb 21 February 1952 vol 496 c48W
74. Mr. M. Lindsay

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of the Civil Service will have been cut by the present Government, including the effect of decisions already announced.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

As my right hon. Friend told the House on the 29th January, it is his aim to cut out 10,000 posts in the first six months of this year. This represents about 1½ per cent. of the Civil Service's non-industrial staff. As he also stated on the same occasion, he aims at further reductions after these.
