HC Deb 21 February 1952 vol 496 c48W
83. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what effect the new proposals for retirement from the Civil Service will have upon the special classes of ex-Service men who joined the Civil Service after the 1914–18 War and upon disabled ex-Service men.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The retirement policy which I announced on the 5th February in reply to a Question by the the right hon. Member for Battersea, North (Mr. Jay) applies to all civil servants, including ex-Service men and disabled men. All civil servants between 60 and 65 years of age who wish to stay and for whom there is useful work, will be retained so long as they are fit and efficient; and in judging the fitness of disabled men due regard will be paid to their disability.
