asked the Minister of Education if she will give her estimate of the cost of introducing equal pay for women teachers.

On the basis of the number of women teachers expected to be in post on the 1st April, 1952, and of the present Burnham Reports, it is estimated that the annual expenditure on the salaries of teachers in grant-aided schools and establishments in England and Wales would be increased by some £11.5 million if women teachers were to be paid at the same rates as men.
