HC Deb 21 February 1952 vol 496 cc65-6W
136. Mr. Steward

asked the Secretary for Overseas Trade, as representing the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, what steps he is taking to obtain increased supplies of strategic raw materials from Burma in view of the present scarcity of these materials.

Mr. Hopkinson

The producing and commercial interests concerned are fully alive to the desirability of increased im- ports into this country of scarce raw materials from Burma, both on private and public account; and representations have been made from time to time to the Government of Burma on the importance we attach to them. My noble Friend will be glad to consider any suggestions for further action that may be made to him.
