§ 87. Mr. Oliverasked the Minister of Education whether, arising out of the overcrowded conditions of schools in Ripley, Derbyshire and of the necessity, through lack of school accommodation, for classes to be housed in various chapel buildings in the town, she will consider exercising her powers to have constructed temporary classrooms under the Minor Works Programme, having regard to the increasing school population and of her refusal to authorise the erection of a modern school in Ripley.
§ Miss HorsbrughIt is for the local education authority to decide in the first240W place how they propose to use the capital sum allotted to them by my Department for minor works; that is, for jobs costing less than £6,500. I expect shortly to be able to inform the local education authority for Derbyshire to what extent I can supplement their basic allocation for 1953–54.
