§ Mr. Hardyasked the Minister of Health the number of patients admitted to mental hospitals and mental deficiency colonies by orders made under the Criminal Justice Act, 1948, since 27th December, 1948; and the number of such persons discharged over the same period.
Mr. lain MacleodSection 24 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1948, does not apply to mental defectives but only to persons of unsound mind. The number of patients admitted under its provisions to mental hospitals from the 1st January, 1949, to the 30th September, 1952, was 235. Figures showing the number of such persons discharged are not available.
