Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Works whether he is aware of the continued shortage of cement in South Wales which is holding up the building programme; that one firm has had to purchase English cement at 32s. 6d. a ton more than that normally supplied in Wales; that one contractor in Newport is only receiving eight tons a week to build 200 flats; and what action he is taking to augment the supply.
§ Mr. EcclesI am aware that there have been some local difficulties in South Wales recently, and I have asked the manufacturers to increase supplies of 177W cement. No complaints about the cases quoted by the hon. Member have been made to my office for Wales.
