HC Deb 12 December 1952 vol 509 c110W
Mr. Robson Brown

asked the Minister of Supply the total number of iron and steel foundries in Great Britain and Northern Ireland; how many sell the whole of their output; how many sell less than 25 per cent. of their output; how many use the whole of their production: and how many foundries employ less than 50 employees on direct foundry operations.

Mr. Sandys

The total number of iron and steel founders is approximately 2,000. The particular information asked for on sales is not readily available, but about one-third of the founders use 50 per cent. or more of their output of castings. The number of foundries employing less than 50 employees on direct foundry operations is about 1,200
