HC Deb 09 December 1952 vol 509 cc40-1W
127. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that owners of houses and premises destroyed by enemy action are still forced to maintain safety and health standards of the derelict premises and to pay ground rent although unable to use the land; and if he will take steps to release these people from this obligation.

Mr. Marples

My right hon. Friend cannot relieve the owners of war damaged premises from their statutory responsibilities for preventing danger or nuisance to the public. With regard to the payment of ground rent, he would refer the hon. Member to the provisions of the Landlord and Tenant (War Damage) Acts, 1939 and 1941.
