asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government to what extent his proposed £2,500,000 new work for 1953 for bombed towns represents new work to be completed in 1953 or permits for new work to be started in 1953.

The additional £2,500,000 represents the value of the work to be carried out in 1953 on new projects which will be licensed during the year. The total value of the new projects to be licensed during the year will be greater than £2,500,000 since some of the work will not be completed till 1954. What will be the total value of the new licences issued during 1953 I cannot say until I know what projects the local authorities concerned wish me to sponsor.
