HC Deb 29 November 1951 vol 494 cc177-8W
Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations how far preliminary survey has been made for a railway leading from Bechuanaland to Walvis Bay; and what were the results.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have been asked to reply.

As far as I am aware the only preliminary survey of a possible railway line from Southern Rhodesia through the Bechuanaland Protectorate to Walvis Bay was made in 1931 by Mr. J. L. S. Jeffares. Mr. Jeffares's report was presented to the Southern Rhodesian Legislative Assembly and a copy may be inspected in the Commonwealth Relations Office Library.
