HC Deb 29 November 1951 vol 494 cc171-2W
89. Mr. Edward Evans

asked the Minister of Health what progress has been made in the provision of bone-conduction hearing aids; and when the allocation of these aids may be expected.

Mr. Crookshank

Large-scale clinical trials of an experimental model are now going on. If, as I hope, these trials are satisfactory, I shall arrange for supplies as early as possible, although I cannot yet give a date.

93. Mr. Weitzman

asked the Minister of Health what is now the period a patient must wait before being fitted with a hearing aid under the National Health Service; and when Mrs. Matthews, 27, Oswald Street, Clapton, E.5, who applied as long ago as January, 1949. can expect to receive her aid.

Mr. Crookshank

The period varies from centre to centre and according to the patient's priority. I am glad to say that Mrs. Matthews was due to receive her aid yesterday.
