HC Deb 22 November 1951 vol 494 c79W
68. Mr. Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress has been made by the committee set up by his predecessor to review the present system of Purchase Tax affecting those classes of goods within which the utility schemes operate.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I understand that the Committee are making good progress with their consideration of this complex question, but that they have still a substantial programme of work in hand. It is likely, therefore, to be some considerable time before any statement can be made about the Committee's recommendations and the Government's attitude towards them.
