HC Deb 22 November 1951 vol 494 c70W
86. Mr. H. Butler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the number of attacks by hooligans on members of youth clubs in various parts of Hackney, in which members of clubs have been injured, necessitating in some cases treatment as in-patients in hospital; and what action he proposes to take.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I have received a very full report from the Commissioner of Police on the subject of such attacks on youths by hooligans as have occurred in the Hackney area in recent months, from which it appears that in only a very few cases can a connection with a youth club be traced. According to my information, in only one such case was treatment as an in-patient in hospital required. The police are fully alive to the need to deal effectively with hooliganism and will continue to give the matter their close attention.
