HC Deb 21 November 1951 vol 494 c55W
92. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action, other than military, he is contemplating taking to bring an end to the fighting in Malaya.

Mr. Lyttelton

The campaign against Communist-inspired terrorism cannot be pursued by military action alone. I intend during my visit to Malaya to see as much as possible of the other counter-measures already in force and to discuss further measures with responsible officers on the spot.

96. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will arrange during his forthcoming visit to South-East Asia to meet representatives of the trade unions in Singapore and Malaya, in order to obtain a clear picture of the industrial position in that area.

Mr. Lyttelton

Yes.
