HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 cc25-6W
79. Mr. Carson

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that Government Departments are reluctant to employ an applicant who has suffered from tuberculosis; and whether he will circularise all Departments with instructions to accept any such suitable applicants, provided a doctor's certificate is obtained stating that the person concerned is free from infection and physically capable of doing the work.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

A past history of tuberculosis is not a bar to employment in the Civil Service if the candidate is fit for the work of the post and not likely to be a danger to his colleagues. In cases of doubt medical advice is obtained.
