§ 68. Mr. Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the unfair burden placed upon old age pensioners and those of limited means who have to have battery-operated wireless sets in the 22W purchase of new batteries at excessive Purchase Tax charges; and whether he will exempt these batteries from Purchase Tax for all old age pensioners on production of their pension order book to the extent of four batteries per year.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI regret that I cannot adopt the hon. Member's proposal, but I have noted the effect of the Purchase Tax on the price of radio batteries. For the rest I cannot anticipate the Budget.
