HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c21W
67. Mr. Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an assurance that the introduction of the increased bank interest will in no way adversely affect local authorities, especially with regard to their housing programmes.

Mr. R. A. Butler

As I informed the House in my recent speech, the increase in the rate for long-term advances to local authorities by the Public Works Loan Board will be one factor to be taken into account in the discussions with local authorities which my right hon. Friends the Minister of Housing and Local Government and the Secretary of State for Scotland propose to open in the very near future.
