HC Deb 15 November 1951 vol 493 c55W
51. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Agriculture the profit or loss on farms run by county agricultural executive committees since the end of the war.

Sir T. Dugdale

It was not possible to prepare full trading accounts for county agricultural executive committees before the financial year 1948–49. The accounts of the committees for the financial years 1948–49 and 1949–50 appeared in the annual volumes of Trading Accounts and Balance Sheets for those years and disclosed losses on farming operations of£909,913 and£680,322, respectively. The volume for 1950–51 has not yet been published, but the accounts forwarded to the Comptroller and Auditor-General disclosed farming losses of£197,761. These losses were arrived at after charging overheads, including depreciation. administration and interest on capital.
