HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 c18W
69. Mr. Leslie Hale

asked the Chancellor whether he is aware of the hardship caused by old age pensions being subject to Income Tax; and whether he will introduce amending regulations to remove this hardship.

Mr. R. A. Butler:

An old age pensioner with no other income would be exempt from tax. Where there is other income, I do not think that old age pensions should be treated differently from other retirement pensions by being left out of account in computing total income.
