HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 c31W
115. Mr. Mikardo

asked the Minister of Labour when he expects to be able to report further progress on the establishment of a revised cost-of-living index.

Sir W. Monckton:

The Cost of Living Advisory Committee is now considering a report submitted to them by the Technical Committee, which has been reviewing the operation of the Interim Index of Retail Prices since its introduction it. 1947 and has been considering possible means of effecting temporary modifications in the present index until a new index based on the results of a family budget enquiry can be instituted. I hope to receive a report on these matters from the Advisory Committee very shortly.
