HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 c257W
Mr. Hopkinson

asked the Minister of Food what steps he is proposing to take to ensure that calves sent to Creech St. Michael slaughterhouse during the coming summer and autumn are slaughtered on the day of their arrival and not left without food and water until the following day.

Mr. Webb

Calves are sent to this slaughterhouse on Saturday afternoons because the store and dairy sale and collecting centre at Taunton Market are held on that day. We are consulting the local interests concerned about the practicability of altering the collecting day for purchases by the Ministry to a day earlier in the week.
