§ 69. Mr. J. Grimstonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can yet make a statement on the proposal to establish a hydro-electric plant and an aluminium reduction works on the Volta River in the Gold Coast.
Mr. DugdaleYes. Aluminium Limited of Montreal and the British Aluminium Company have made a joint examination of alternative projects for establishing aluminium smelters in North Borneo or the Gold Coast. The results of this examination are under consideration, and further discussions with the companies and considerable further technical investigation in the Gold Coast will be necessary before a decision can be taken to proceed with either scheme.
