80. Mr. E. Martin Smithasked the Secretary of State for War what procedure is adopted to decide whether a man can or cannot be exempted from call-up under the Z Reserve scheme.
§ Mr. StracheyWhen reservists apply for exemption from call-up on the grounds that by reason of age, medical condition or status they are not liable for recall, decisions are made, in the case of officers, by the branch of the War Office administering the arm or corps concerned, and in the case of other ranks, by the parent record office. Where appeals are made on the grounds of hardship, decisions are made centrally, in order to achieve parity in treatment, by officers in one Department of the War Office.
