HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 cc296-7W
105. Mr. Ian Winterbottom

asked the Postmaster-General why a charge of 1s. is made to an addressee who is forced to inquire the address of the sender of a reply-paid telegram, due to an insufficient return address being shown on the telegram.

Mr. Hobson

The charge is made as a contribution towards the cost of the telegram to, and reply from, the originating office to obtain the sender's address. Counter officers, when accepting a reply-paid telegram, advise the sender that his address should be included in the message if it is not known to the addressee.
